Therapeutic Approach

The Way We Work

There are a variety of approaches to the way we work with clients. We have been trained in a therapeutic approach called the ‘integrative’ approach. This method uses a mixture of cognitive behavioural therapy, person-centered therapy and psychodynamic therapy to best meet the needs of the clients. We can also use a blended approach where we will initially meet in person and then you can either chose to meet online, on the telephone or continue with face-to-face sessions. We find that this works best as it's flexible, cost effective and gives you the choices of how you like to meet and work with us.

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy

(CBT)

This approach aims to change the way you think (cognitive) and what you do (behavioural). Rather than looking at past experiences, it focuses on the ‘here and now’, current problems and issues, thus, finding practical solutions to help you feel more positive now.

Psychodynamic Approach

Childhood Ego States

This approach helps you to understand how your current feelings and behaviours are shaped by your past experiences and your unconscious mind and impulses. The therapeutic relationship is key to this approach and having a trusting, accepting relationship encourages you to talk freely and openly about topics relating to childhood, and relationships with your parents or caregivers. This can help you understand yourself in depth, reveal insights into the way your mind works, how and why you feel and behave the way you do and how this affects your relationships with others.

Person-Centred Approach

Reach your full potential

This approach aims to encourage you to bring your own issues to the sessions, and the counselling is led by you and not directed by the counsellor. We can help you to explore your own issues, feelings, beliefs, behaviour, and worldview, so that you can become more self-aware and achieve greater independence. We will treat you as the expert on yourself, as no one else knows exactly what its like to be you. We will not judge you, no matter what you bring to the session, which will help build a trustworthy relationship in which you can feel free and supported to disclose whatever is troubling you.
